Things get a little classier and more comfortable with the addition of carbon fiber scales.
The Mini Speedgoat Ultra is the newest iteration of MKC’s barebones fixed blade EDC. For the most part it’s a simple addition of burled carbon fiber scales to the Mini Speedgoat 2.0, although there are slight adjustments that come along as a result of that.
What’s Changed from the Mini Speedgoat 2.0
Not a lot, but enough that it’s worth pointing out:
- The Ultra has carbon fiber handle scales (so no skeletonized handle or paracord wrap like on the Mini Speedgoat)
- It’s slightly heavier (about 1.4 oz compared to the 1.2 oz of the original)
- It’s slight shorter with a 2.875-inch blade vs. the even 3 inches on the original (an important legal mark for some)
- And the price jumps significantly ($325 up from the $200 of the the original as of this writing)
Otherwise the sheath and carry options are the same: MKC’s own in-house Open Carry kydex sheath design, or a leather sheath made by Teton Leather Company.
The Mini Speedgoat Ultra is officially available now, although it sold out quickly after release, so keep an eye out for their next drop on the MKC website.
It’s nice to see MKC continue to release EDC friendly fixed blades. It looks like they are fully committed to pocket friendly fixed blades with the release of their new folding knife.
