The Cools Series is starting off with three fixed blades.
And that is the actual name of these knives. Legacy knife designer Les George is not mincing words with his first designs for Ka-Bar.
The Cool and Quick Details
- These knives are made in the Ka-Bar factory
- The blade steel is 1095 Cro-Van steel (so plenty of comfort material for longtime users of Ka-Bar).
- The handles are made from a polycarbonate with a honeycomb texture
- And the sheaths are made from Celcon, which is a Kydex-like materials that so far seems dominantly used by Ka-Bar in the knife industry. For reference, it’s the same stuff they’re using for the Ek Commando and Becker BK18 sheaths.
All handles shapes appear to be the same, but the Cool Series offers three difference blade shapes: drop point, sheepsfoot, and reverse tanto.
The Les George Touch
Knife enthusiasts might be familiar with his work from a lot of different places. He’s been making knives since the early 90’s, and has collaborated with plenty of knife companies including Kershaw, Pro-Tech, Fox, and Spartan Blades (who have also been closely teamed up with Ka-Bar lately, to the point of opening up a European-based factory).
He’s also one of the co-founders of Defiant7, which is small-batch knife production company run by seven knife makers with the goal of bringing in younger makers and making excellent knives.
George brought the distinctive spine drop-off after the jimping to the Ka-Bar Cool fixed blade designs, but otherwise seems to have kept the lines simple and efficient, like many of his designs.
No word on whether there will be more colors or designs further down the road, but for now you can pick any version up at the Ka-Bar website.
