If you’ve never heard of them, Gear for Life is more of a media brand focused on gear and gadgets people actually use in day to day life. They’ve been pushing things like knives, flashlights, and coolers for a while, and now they’re releasing a new folder under their own name: The Gear for Life Fast Eddie 1.0.
Named for the “idea guy” behind Gear for Life, the GFL Fast Eddie is a snappy, pint-sized flipper with a good range of color options right out of the gate.
Here are the quick specs:
Overall Length: | 6.5″ |
Blade Length: | 2.8″ |
Blade Steel: | 10Cr15MoV or VG-10 |
Blade Style: | Drop point |
Handle: | G10 or titanium |
Lock Type: | Liner |
Carry System: | Tip-up pocket clip |
They released two version in four different colors and two different steels: The G10 version, which features 10Cr15MoV steel, is available in black, Desert Sand, and OD Green, and the titanium version, which features VG10 steel, is available in… titanium color.
Don’t worry too much about those difference in steels. That 10Cr15MoV stuff is roughly a Chinese equivalent to VG-10, It’s a decent steel with good edge retention and corrosion resistance, and it’s especially good at take a thin, polished edge (which is why it’s used in kitchen cutlery so much). The Fast Eddie flipper definitely a low-investment carry as the G10 version only weighs in at 2 oz, and the titanium version is just under 3, although you’re stuck with it as a right-handed carry option.
The blade opens on ceramic ball bearings, and some enthusiast might find the action feels familiar. GFL has slotted the same factory that makes Ruike knives for the Fast Eddie, so smooth, consistent, fidgety flipping fun is a fairly sure bet.
The GFL Fast Eddie is available now from several vendors including Knife Center and Gear for Life’s own site.
