CRKT Releases a Manual OTF Knife

The Gravitic Flip is a gravity OTF EDC based on a marketing curiosity.

No springs or liners here, just a lever, some magnets, and wrist-flicking fun. It’s based on the old Flip It knives, which were made back in the 40’s as promotional oddities for auto part stores.

Here are the quick specs:

  • 7.5″ overall
  • 3.18″ dagger blade
  • 5Cr13MoV steel
  • GRN handle
  • Deep carry pocket clip

The key mechanism is the insert in the side of the handle. That flips out, works as a lever to push the blade up, then settles back into the recess where a couple of magnets hold it in place.

It was designed by Ted Velerio of Teval Knives and 1* Industries. He might be better known for his after-market pieces like the Defense Safety Ring: basically a karambit-style pommel ring that can be added to folders like the Spyderco Yojimbo or Emerson CQC series. He has a long history in both military and law enforcement and an engineers brain that seems geared to producing neat oddities like the Gravitic Flip.

Of course in true CRKT fashion, they’ve used some less than exciting materials on an otherwise fascinating knife, but they’ve also kept the cost of it down to $50 MSRP, which should end up being around $40 from most stores.

The Gravitic Flip was available as of Thursday April 9 from your typical vendors.

CRKT decided to update a couple of their iconic designs for Blade Show 2026, so it looks like they will continue the combination of model updates and completely new designs moving forward. It must be working for them.
