The Sliding Scale Opener is in Production Again
The Fulcrum 2 was known for having one of the more innovative opening mechanisms in CRKT’s line up (which is saying a lot).
Here are the quick specs:
- 7.56″ overall
- 3.18″ blade
- 8Cr13MoV steel w/ titanium nitride finish
- GRN scales w/ steel bolster

The show side scale slides forward, bolster and all, pushing the blade into a half position, then you pull the scale back to full open the blade and engage the liner lock. To disengage, you only need to push the lock aside like any other old liner lock.
It’s a fun and fidgety feature, but the nature of the opener mechanism does mean that the clip is locked in on one side in a tip-down orientation.

The slide scale opener was designed by Charles Kain, then Russ Kommer used it for the Fulcrum 1 and 2 (if you feel up for a time machine, you can still watch a quick demo of the very first Fulcrum from 2009). The Fulcrum 2 was released in 2016, but was discontinued a few years later. It became a neat find on the secondary market after that, so it’s nice that CRKT is putting more into circulation.
The Fulcrum 2 dropped (again) on October 1 in the $50 – 60 range. You can check its availability on CRKT’s site,
