Big I Design is Making a New Folder Designed by Ken Onion Jr.

The Ti Manu is the First Pocket They’ll Have Made that was Designed by an Outside Designer.

It’s a flashy titanium folder like a lot of what Big I has already made, but they’ve asked Kenny Onion (the son of that Ken Onion) to design something for them that was his own but could still fit in the Big I line up.

The specs and materials are pretty typical for Big I:

  • S90V steel on a 3.25″ blade,
  • Grade 5 titanium scales,
  • Thumbstud open,
  • 2-screw design (pivot and pocket clip),
  • Deep-carry titanium pocket clip.

Another intersting feature for this particular Big I offering is they’ll be selling it with a choice of pivot between phosphor bronze washers or caged ceramic ball bearings in order to cover people who want a super snappy action, and those who want to get it a little dirty.

The Big i Design The Ti Manu pocket knife balanced on a person's index finger.

The other striking feature is the blade shape, which at this point might reasonably be called a hallmark of the Onion family. They’re calling it a modified drop point, but it could almost as easily be called a modified wharncliffe in a dance of of odd curvature that breaks slightly from Big I’s typical angular aesthetic.

Ken Onion Jr has been working pretty steadily to establish himself as a designer in his own right, debuting with the CRKT Bamboozle in 2023, and following that with the Civivi Crabby in 2025, making the Ti Manu his third production design to date.

The Kickstarter for the Ti Manu is live right now. You can check it out here to learn more. Currently their timeline is to go into production around March, and start shipping in August.
