The ideal pocket fixed blade according to Best Damn EDC is out now.
After a few years of prototyping, Tactile Knife Co. is finally releasing the Redhawk, designed by Taylor Martin. It saw light of day for the first time at Blade Show Texas where a lucky few got to handle it, but now it’s officially out in the world with more or less full production and ready to ship out to customers.
Here are the quick specs:
Overall Length: | 6.9″ |
Blade Length: | 2.75″ |
Steel: | Magnacut |
Handle Material: | Micarta |
Sheath: | Kydex or Leather w/ pocket clip |
Made In: | Dallas, TX |
EDC Design Goals

In his own announcement video, Taylor Martin talks about his journey from carrying almost exclusively folding knives and only owning a couple fixed blades for camping, to carrying fixed blades every day (in large part thanks to Georgia Bushcraft). The shift still came with a desire for a compact EDC solution, though, and nothing out there quite checked all the boxes for hi specifically.
Among his ideal features are:
- A taller blade with a thin grind to make it as slicey as possible,
- A reverse tanto (or modified sheepsfoot), which he has found to be his preference for utility,
- A handle he could get a full, four-finger grip on,
- Scalloped scales for a comfortable pinch grip,
- Can spark off a ferro rod
- And a sheath that actually fits easily into the pocket.
The Carry System
Of course the big selling point is that it’s a fixed blade EDC, and they’ve been thorough in the regard.
It comes with an option for two different kinds of sheath, both featuring clips from Discreet Carry Solutions:
- The taco-style Kydex sheath featuring a Mod 2 DCC clip.
- A leather sheath from Chattanooga Leather Works featuring what looks to be a Mod W DCC clip.
This is actually the first taco-style Kydex Tactile Knife has made, and it looks like they put it through a lot of trial and error to get it as small and slim as they could to get it to what Martin wanted.
The the clip on the leather sheath is designed to fit on a belt or in a pocket (although the strap that the clip is mounted on looks suspiciously like it could work for horizontal carry, assuming you can get the clip off).
Available Now with Options
The Redhawk is available now from Tactile Knife Co with a range of color options.
- The standard version has a tumbled blade with green Micarta scales;
- A green Cerakote blade with natural Micarta handle scales is available for a little more;
- A black Cerakote blade with black Micarta scales is also a little more.
The option for a leather sheath will also pad the price a little, making the cost range from around $220 for the base version all the way up to a little over $300 for a Cerakote blade in a leather sheath.
No word on when or whether this knife will be available at regular vendors, but there is an exclusive version currently being sold by Carry Commission with black Micarta and an FDE Cerakote blade. Either way, it looks like this knife is selling out quick, so be on the look out.
