The new SOG Ether FX is a fixed blade with a skeletonized handle, S35VN steel, and a lot of jimping. It also features SOG’s Universal Mounting System, which we’ve seen before on other lightweight models like the Altair.
Here’s the spec rundown:
Blade Length: | 3.1” |
Steel: | CPM-S35VN |
Blade Type: | Drop point |
Handle: | GRN |
Sheath: | Kydex |
Weight: | 2.1 oz |
SOG is highlighting the Ether FX as highly customizable thanks to the G10 scales that can be removed by taking off two hex screws to turn it into a truly skeletonized knife, and probably dropping the weight below 2 ounces. The size and skeletonized nature call up comparisons to the now-discontinued Gerber Ghostrike, although the Ether looks to have a significantly thinner blade.
They also didn’t skimp on the jimping, which runs all along the spine and on either side of the tank near the pommel, so there should be plenty of grip in several different grips. It looks like a compelling consideration for hunters and backpackers, or anyone with a lot of gear and expecting to get into some wet conditions.
The SOG Ether FX is available now with an MSRP of $169.99. Retail looks to be going at least $10 below that, though.
